If you’re an employer and your total wages go over a certain amount, you may need to register to pay payroll tax.

  1. Check if you need to register

    You must register for payroll tax if you pay wages in Victoria and your taxable Australian wages exceed the payroll tax threshold.

    If you don’t register when you should, you might have to pay penalties or interest.

  2. Get your details ready

    If you are liable for payroll tax, you must register with us. Before filling out the registration form, make sure you have:

    • your business details (like your Australian Business Number and contact info)
    • your payroll records (how much you pay your employees)
    • details about any other businesses you’re connected to (for grouping rules).
  3. Register for payroll tax

    You are now ready to complete the online registration for PTX Express. This is the online system where you’ll manage your payroll tax. Fill in the form with your business and wage details and submit.

  4. Create a login for PTX Express

    Once you are registered, you can create your login.

    • Go to the create login screen on PTX Express.
    • Complete all the required fields. 
    • Answer only one security question (answering more than one question will stop you from proceeding).
    • Select 'Create Login'.

    A new password will be emailed to you.
